Story

I woke up at 6:00 am, it was very rough and I was feeling a bit seasick. We were supposed to be in the harbour at 6:10 so I stayed in bed till then.
I was getting changed in my cabin, when I heard the announcement at 6:30 told everyone on board to put on lifejackets.
Everyone was ordered to go to the smoke room, but there wasnt enough room inside so I waited in the corridore.
Every hour they put over reports that we were safe inside the harbour and drifting up into Wellington.

We were told a tug was coming to pull us off. But, after a while we could tell it wasn't going to work. Through one of the windows we could see the tug bobbing up and down in the sea.

About 1 o'clock, the ship started rocking from side to side, then one time, the boat swayed to one side and didn't straighten up. Everything was crashing into each other in the lounge, everyone began running to try and get out of the way of what was falling on them.

The announcement was made for everyone to report to starboard (right) side.
Now we were completely sideways and the ship was reversing.

Now the floor was on a very steep angle and the older people seemed to be tired of holding on and were sliding down, bruised, and bleeding from knocks they had. Some old people already accepted they might just die.

Now, the rail was at sea level, so we just climbed over onto the liferafts. The raft kept bumping into the ship and the ship was tipping over further.
I didnt see any paddles on the raft, so I took my shoes off and climbed over the side!  I held onto the side and kicked
like crazy. When I looked around, we were past the ship.
A small boat rocked by and threw us a rope, so I held on to it.
The waves were so big, but i held on and climbed onto the small boat, then helped the next person up.
We sat in the boat for about am hour, untill a bigger boat came and collected us.

The boat finally reached the Wellington terminal, and I waited until my dad picked me up. I saw the news reporters interviewing another survivor, and the T.V screens were all coated with 'breaking news' -Wahine crash near wellington.

We drove home and I remember falling asleep straight away, safe and home again...
